Special Eyewear for Special Needs

We love working with all kinds of patients here at Bright Eyes Family Vision Care. It makes us especially happy when we can help those with special needs.  People often ask us if we work with special needs patients, and the answer is “YES!” We've seen patients with autism, Down syndrome, traumatic brain injuries and other conditions that need a little more TLC. Dr. Nate, who specializes in pediatrics and vision development, gives all his patients special attention, but he will schedule extra time for those patients who need it. His welcoming, friendly demeanor ensures that even our youngest patients feel comfortable and happy seeing him.

Specs 4 Us

Our optical is one of a few in Tampa that offers frames specially designed for children (and adults) with Down syndrome. The Specs 4 Us eyeglasses are designed for the facial features of Down Syndrome, so they don’t sit too low! They come in many colors and eye sizes with optional 3-D and polarized clip-ons. Tomato glasses are flexible plastic frames that also fit kids’ faces well. The temples are very adjustable and the nosepads are comfortable, so they stay on! And our staff are great with kids! They are not afraid to get down to eye level, to make sure the glasses are going to be a good fit.

Here’s an email from a happy mom:

Dear Cristina,

We want to thank you so much for helping us secure a pair of glasses for our active 4 year old daughter with Down Syndrome. You and your staff have been efficient and helpful each time we come in to your store to order a new pair of Specs 4 Us, or for an adjustment.

We recently tried the Tomato Glasses as a means of last resort, because Katie constantly grabs her glasses and plays with them. We were pleasantly surprised of the glasses flexibility and comfort as well. These are the first pair of glasses she has had that she keeps on, without much fuss. This is a big deal for us.

Thanks again for your help.

Sincerely,

Katie’s Mom

Call us if you have questions, and we are happy to help! Thanks for trusting us with your families! If you or your family members haven't scheduled to have your eyes examined this year - schedule now. :)

All the best!

would you do eye wear for people who used to be able to speak and the eye wear where it focus’s on where the pupil is looking to then type with it a bit like a mouse on a computer.

We do not provide eye-tracking communication systems, but if those systems require prescription eyewear, we may be able to help. Please call 813-792-0637 for more precise information. Thank you.
