THE FIRST IN FLORIDA TO OFFER VIRTUAL REALITY VISION THERAPY

As seen in magazines such as TIME, Wired, Engaget and a few others, Vivid Vision is the first Virtual Reality Vision Therapy system created for treatment of various binocular vision problems. Using principles from the latest vision research, Vivid Vision is a part of our vision therapy program for treatment for Amblyopia (Lazy Eye), Strabismus, depth perception, suppression and more!

We have been following this technology for a long time, and we are thrilled to be the first office in Florida to offer this treatment option to our patients.

Vivid Vision uses the Oculus Rift virtual reality platform to provide therapeutic activities. This allows us to incorporate fun, comfortable VR experiences into the vision therapy program for faster progress. The vision therapy activities are designed as games so that they are immersive and exciting for the patients. You can see some of the examples in the video below. The more fun the games are, the more engaged the patient is and the faster treatment occurs. But even though they are designed as games, the virtual reality images are specifically constructed to improve visual clarity for amblyopic patients, improve depth perception, and other visual problems by selecting the visual information that each eye receives. This stimulates the brain to use both eyes together as a team and strengthen binocular vision.

We hope you are as excited about this as we are!

BRIGHT EYES IN THE NEWS FOR VISION THERAPY

 VIVID VISION FAQ

What is Vivid Vision?

Vivid Vision is a vision therapy device that combines virtual reality (VR) and games to help patients develop specific visual skills within a vision therapy program.

How does Vivid Vision work?

Vivid Vision is software that delivers a unique image to each eye in a fast-paced virtual reality game environment. The images are precisely manipulated to encourage the eyes to work together. If both eyes are not seeing simultaneously, the games cannot be played very well. The games are engaging visually and mentally, which helps encourage patients to use both eyes together.

What diagnosis can be treated with Vivid Vision?

Patients who have conditions where the eyes do not work well together can benefit. These may include amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (wandering or crossed eye), suppression (the "turning off" of an eye), or other binocular vision problems.

How is Vivid Vision different than Vision Therapy?

Vision Therapy is a program of activities to help patients develop their visual skills and eliminate visual problems. Vivid Vision is the first device to combine widely-used vision therapy techniques with virtual reality video games. Vivid Vision is designed to be used within a vision therapy program, as many patients would be unable to use Vivid Vision without some visual training first.

How do I find out if I am a candidate for Vivid Vision?

In order to see if you are a candidate for Vivid Vision, a thorough eye exam must be performed to determine if you have a visual diagnosis that can be treated with vision therapy. Additionally, there may be additional tests to ensure that there are no diseases or injuries that require treatment or would limit the benefit of Vivid Vision. Call us at call us at 813-792-0637 to schedule an appointment.

How much does treatment cost?

Vivid Vision treatment occurs within a Vision Therapy program, and Bright Eyes' Vision Therapy programs cost between few hundred dollars and a few thousand dollars depending on the length of the program (ranging from one month to one year, depending on the diagnosis). Medical insurance may cover a portion of the evaluation and treatment, but may not.

What are the ages that can be treated with Vivid Vision?

Most patients 5 years of age and up can use Vivid Vision, as long as the patient can comfortably wear the Oculus Rift VR headset.

Are there other options for Virtual Reality Vision Therapy?

At this time, Vivid Vision is the only Virtual Reality device for use within a Vision Therapy program.

Can Vivid Vision be used at home?

There will be a home-version of Vivid Vision released for beta-testing soon. Patients will have to use the home version under a doctor's supervision. Again, some patients will be unable to use Vivid Vision until certain visual capabilities are reached through a vision therapy program.

Is there scientific evidence that it works?

Vivid Vision has been developed with the paradigm of "perceptual learning" in mind. This has very strong scientific support. Likewise the system uses "dichoptic" presentation (each eye gets a different image). This also has strong support. A 2015 study of Vivid Vision can be found here.
